MPlayer OSX Extended rev13 crashing, and not showing vob subtitles.
Added by C Aq about 2 years ago
Hello All,
I have an intel macbook running Leopard (10.5.2).
Till now I had MPlayer OSX, MPlayer OSX Extended(rev8) and VLC installed on my system.
Yesterday I installed MPlayerOSX Extended rev13 (MPOE.13) over existing one. It automatically updated fontconfig on first run.
Now I am facing two problems:
1. MPOE.13 crashes whenever it finds the file ~/Library/Preferences/hu.mplayerhq.mplayerosx.extended.plist.
If I delete this file and rerun MPOE.13, it starts ok. But if I close it now and restart, it crashes again on finding the automatically created file during last run. I have attached the Crash Report with this post.
2. I am unable to select subtitles when running .vob files. It shows that subtitles are there under Movie->Subtitle as 0: Undefined
But it does not get selected nor subtitles show up when playing the movie. The subtitles show up fine upon selection in VLC Player.
Please can someone help me for resolving the above problems.

Any reason you're running 10.5.2 instead of 10.5.8? Perhaps there's some compatibility issues there.

Because that is the version I got as preinstalled(with installer DVDs) when I bought the machine.
And I have important data in Mac OS drive which I dont want to risk losing incase there is any problem during upgrade.
Further, I dont believe in upgrading software too much (as it mostly leads to occupying more system resources) unless there are some features really worth going for.
The release notes of MPE rev13 does not state any requirement above Mac OS Leopard (10.5)

Early dot releases of OS X tending be buggy. 10.5.8 is rock solid for me and I can't say I've ever had a problem from a system upgrade.

The only way to re-run it without crashing is by opening the ~/Library/Preferences/hu.mplayerhq.mplayerosx.extended.plist file and unchecking the SUHasLaunchedBefore boolean.
The seems to be something wrong with the update/sparkle thing.

Ok, so, to be able to re-run it without crashing :
- Open Terminal.app and run :
$ open ~/Library/Preferences/hu.mplayerhq.mplayerosx.extended.plist
- Uncheck the "SUHasLaunchedBefore" boolean
- Save the file and quit the plist editor
- Run MOE
- Go to "Preferences..."
- Check the "Automatically check for new updates" parameter
- Close the preference panel
- Quit MOE
From now on, it won't ask you if you wan't to activate the autoupdate, and won't crash at startup.

I have the exact same issue on 10.5.8, so the problem lies somewhere else.

I had the same problem (crashing on starting) on 10.5.8 as well. I solved it by installing rev12, starting it few times (to be sure that it works fine) and finally installing rev13 on top. It seems to be OK for now.
