Description
Opening an AVI file, results in a window popping up saying "Playback Error - Abnormal playback termination. Check log file for more information."

Cannot reproduce a general problem with AVI files on either Leopard or Tiger.
Can you try to directly open the file with mplayer using the command-line?
cd /Applications/MPlayer\ OSX\ Extended.app/Contents/Resources/External_Binaries/mplayer.app/Contents/MacOS/
./mplayer {drag movie file here!}
I suspect there's a problem with mplayer and the specific file.
