On a Core2Duo Mac Mini with the latest Snow Leopard Mplayer plays video at about 2x rate if either DTS passthrough or AC3 passthrough is selected. Tried with a fresh install of the OS and still occurs.

I can confirm that bug.

EDIT: It happens only if the video driver is set to "integrated window (corevideo)"; if I set it to "separate window (corevideo)" then the passthrough works good.

You're right. That fixes the problem. Still annoying though. Cant find how to change it in rev13 though.

Use this option: "-vo corevideo:device_id=0" ;-)

Hi!

I tried this command option, but doesn't work for me.
If I use DTS, than don't start the movie.
I hear very loud noise.
Rev 13-test4 running on Snow Leopard 64bit.

Macbook early 2009 Snow Leopard, MPlayer OSX Extended rev12 and rev13-test2

You're right. That fixes the problem. Still annoying though. Cant find how to change it in rev13 though.

Use this option: "-vo corevideo:device_id=0" ;-)

Thanks, tried it as well and it does open in a separated window as intended but the audio is all scrambled static. My DTS/DD receiver never sees it as a multichannel signal I think.

This is with test 4 ver.

Updated by Adrian Stutz about 2 years ago

I don't have the equipment to test or fix issues related to AC3/DTS passthrough. Patches highly welcome. :)

Please try with rev13-test5, there have been some related changes in MPlayer but I don't know if they apply.

Updated by Fekete Csongor about 2 years ago

Hi!

I tried test6, but movies playing with 2x speed in DTS.
I played mkv movie with 2 audio.
The first was English DTS, it was wrong, but on the playing movie, I change the secound audio with stereo, it was good.
I think the output signal, or the digital modul is bad.

Thanks, if you made new update, than I will try it fast.

Tried test-6 and no good. The issue with the static is gone though but both AC3 and DTS play at double speed. I guess its good for people with short attention spans!

If I set it to play in a separate window it plays as it should.

Is there any info I can give you that might help track it down?

Updated by Fekete Csongor about 2 years ago

I tried test7, but don't work the DTS...
I hear lout noise, and not play the movie.

I don't know if it is a bug related to MPlayer or to MPlayer OSX Extended but, just to let you know, you don't need to have a dts capable audio system.
If you set the DTS pass-trought the movie will be played at double speed and you will (obviously) hear only noise or no sound at all, but the issue is still reproducible at least even, on regular analog audio system.
With test7 things are changed a little: video is always played at 2x but I hear only noise while with previous version even the audio was played at 2x

Updated by Jerry Biehler about 2 years ago

Tried test-7 as well, still the same problem. Sound and video double rate. Did find I am not getting any audio with AC3 tracks. DTS tracks do play.

Also seems to be a long load time with test-7

User User is right, as long as you have a machine that has digital out capabilities the issue should be able to be tested.

I saw this other bug below and wonder if it could somehow be related:

http://mplayerosx.sttz.ch/tracker/issues/show/256

Updated by Fekete Csongor about 2 years ago

I think this way is good, but don't work well.
I tried tes8, and I am playing the movie, I can hear good dts sound across 1 sec.
The movie is tearing, but after 3 secound I hear 1 secound good sound.

  • Status changed from New to Feedback
  • Target version set to rev14

This could be fixed in rev14-test1.

I investigated in the headphones plugging/unplugging issue and suspect the fix for it could fix ac3/dts passthrough as well.

The video is playing fine now, but there is no sound. Therefore it is not fixed.

Finally remembered to give it a try. Rev 14v2 works for DTS encoded files. AC3 has no sound but the receiver sees something as it displays dolby digital when I try to play. Somehow the audio stream is not making it.

Speed is correct.

My recent patches to au_coreaudio should fix this issue -- can the OP try this again with a recent build of MPlayerOSX Extended?

No go. No audio whatsoever with the AC3 passthrough selected. Video plays at correct speed though.

Latest build from mplayer svn as at today (with apparently byte ordering changed?) works for me on a few sample videos that I tried. YAY! AC3 out again!

Where did you fine that version?

Passthrough is still not working with rev14, even though this reports to be using an mplayer build from Jan 2011 (r32769). This bug was fixed in Oct 2010, r32450, ao_coreaudio.c:

r32450 | diego | 2010-10-08 10:56:20 +0200 (Fri, 08 Oct 2010) | 3 lines
AC-3 streams need to be byteswapped on little-endian machines.

I've just rebuilt against r32837 and that works fine.

This is working my my unofficial MPlayer.app build. I suggest reading everything at this post for info. Note that the audio filters (virtual surround, etc.) are incompatible with either passthrough option. A future release (likely 1410j) will prevent this incompatibility from causing mplayer to crash.
