Me too, on 10.5.8. The command line mplayer does it correctly.

Same here, on 10.5.8, MacBook Pro (summer 2007)

Have the same problen on a MacBook Pro 4,1, running 10.5.8.
Updated to rev12 (1211) today, same problem: The screensaver is not blocked when in fullscreen mode.
This bug essentially breaks MPlayer OSX Extended for me. Been using VLC for two weeks, I hate it. If I can help in solving this issue, let me know, I'm highly motivated. (But mind: I'm just an admin, no developer – only just started to dabble in compiled languages.)

It's working again! At least for me, this is fixed in rev13 (1310) on 10.5.8.
